Most people purchase more than one home throughout their lives and even though you are thinking about moving in, you have to think ahead about when you will be moving out as well.  Realizing that you will one day be reselling the house you are buying at the present time will guide you to make sound choices when choosing the location, layout, and surrounding area of the house in question. 

Houses that overlook busy intersections or have train tracks with a working line close by should be steered clear of because this is something you will never be able to control.  Many home buyers are picky and you should be to, because this is where you are going to live and more than likely spend six figures to do it.  The location of your home should be the first thing you observe when you are looking to purchase a home.

You will never want to reside next to a cemetery even if it doesn’t bother you in the slightest.  This could make reselling the house extremely difficult because many people are superstitious and the thought of living next to a cemetery does creep out a large majority of people.

Since we are living in such modern times, opting to buy a house with a basement should be something you are striving towards.  Crawl spaces are becoming a thing of the past and since many people long to have a finished basement this will be a great attraction to buyers when you are thinking of reselling. 

These are not hard and fast rules and you can live where ever you want to however, looking ahead a few years will only help you make a more educated decision.  This is something that should be thought about in great detail because the estimated average time that many first time home buyers reside in their first home is six years.  No matter how you want to look at it you need to always remember that even though this is where you are going to call home, in the end, it’s still nothing more than a large investment.
